Lets say I am travelling from EGHH to ZWWW
When transitioning from e.g. UAAA to ZWUQ FIR, should I instantly transition from feet to metres or should I wait for ATC to tell me what to do? If I do need to wait for ATC, if there is no ATC at ZWUQ do I keep using feet until I get to the STAR for ZWWW?
Hi, when there’s no ATC online, you are supposed to transit to Metric RVSM levels immediately when entering ZWUQ FIR. And in your flight plan (if you are using simbrief to generate one), you can see like
... SARIN/K0913S1250 ..
which means transit to 12500M(41100 ft) at SARIN(the entry fix of ZWUQ FIR).

Just to add to @1897662’s response, do please always wait for ATC instructions for any altitude change when there is ATC online – even if the step climb is in your flight plan.

So if ATC is online at ZWUQ, I should wait for metric conversion from ATC from UAAA to ZWUQ, if ATC is not online, I do it myself
